Technology Standards for Hilldale Public Schools: Year 2012-2013
Hardware Standards for Desktop Computer
Windows Computers
Hilldale Public Schools standard teacher computer system is a Dell Optiplex 790 Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) with an Intel i5 processor (3.1 GHz, 6M Cache) with 8GB of PC3 12800 memory, a CDRW/DVD, 250 GB hard drive, and 24” inch Wide Screen Flat Panel Monitor. Each computer comes with a three (3) year warranty. Minimum networked teacher computer is a Dell Optiplex 745 with a 1.8 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and 17” flat panel monitor.
The standard student computer system is a Dell Optiplex 790 Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) with an Intel i5 processor (3.1 GHz, 6M Cache) with 8GB of PC3 12800 memory, a CDRW/DVD, 250 GB hard drive, and 24” inch Wide Screen Flat Panel Monitor. Each computer comes with a three (3) year warranty. Minimum networked student computer is a Dell Optiplex SX210 with a 1.2 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 17” flat panel monitor.
Macintosh/Apple Systems
Hilldale does not currently utilize any Macintosh OS computers. We are evaluating ways to best integrate multiple platforms into the district into the most cost effective and beneficial way. iOS devices are used at Hilldale Schools.
Software Standards for Desktop Computers
Operating Systems
Microsoft® Windows 7 Professional operating system is the standard. Select labs and rooms are still using Windows Vista Business edition or Windows XP Professional, but are next to be replaced or upgraded.
Hilldale's servers use Microsoft® Windows 2003 and 2008 Server with Active Directory, native 2008. Hilldale also utilizes some Linux-based servers for various applications.
Applications
Microsoft® Office 2010 Professional is the standard application program for teacher and student computers. Hilldale Public Schools has used Microsoft’s Select and Academic licensing programs to keep costs at a reasonable level.
Older labs have either Office 2007 Professional or Office 2003 Professional. Hilldale only utilizes Microsoft Office within the computing network.
Student Management
Hilldale Public Schools utilizes Municipal Accounting Systems, iSIS for management of student data and information.
Media Centers
Destiny from Follett Software is the standard library automation software.
E-mail System
Hilldale currently utilizes an in-house Microsoft Exchange server for electronic communications. This is a scalable and effective solution for the district for this time.
Internet Browser
The district has standardized on Microsoft® Internet Explorer 8. Internet Explorer 9 and Mozilla FireFox also are on the standard list where applicable.
Child Nutrition
Hilldale Public Schools utilizes Municipal Accounting Systems, iLR for management of student data and information related to lunch. Hilldale also utilizes PaySchools to integrate into iLR so patrons can pay lunch balances on-line. iLR and iSIS also integrate with one another, with permissions set per user account enable the district to have a flat and secure SIS (Student Information System)
Special Services
SEAS is standardized Special Services software. SEAS, a web based software, is a system that manages both Federal and State data in Special Education.
Operations
bigWebApps is the district's maintenance and work order tracking software. The Technology Department also utilizes bigWebApps.
