AMVETS offers scholarships through our National Service Foundation (NSF) and donations. They are for Veteran (other than dishonorable), Active Duty, Guard, and Reserves; Spouses; and Children/Grandchildren of Veterans, Active Duty, Guard, and Reserves who are currently in high school. The scholarships, up to $12,000, must be used for full-time study in the pursuit of undergraduate studies, graduate studies or a certification/degree from an accredited technical school.
The scholarship is awarded based on academic promise, financial need, and merit. AMVETS will make only one payment per year, even if the student is on an accelerated schedule. You are required to use the scholarship in its entirety within five years of the award date. The requirement for the use of the JROTC scholarship is within one year of the award date. Any amount remaining will be forfeited.
Applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements, gather the required documents, and complete the online application in its entirety.
Eligibility criteria:
A) Must be a United States Citizen
B) Must provide evidence of active duty status or veteran status having served honorably
C) Must demonstrate financial need
D) Must have a high school diploma or GED*
E) Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment to an eligible program
F) Must not be in default on a federal student loan
G) Must not be convicted under state or federal law for sale of or possession of illegal drugs
H) Must agree to authorize AMVETS to publicize your scholarship award, if you are selected
