Welcome to 8th grade English.  This course is designed to prepare you for high school English.  Lessons are designed for students to understand a deeper meaning behind the literature, and writing skills are essential to communicate what a student has learned.  This class is taught in the style of a high school English class with two textbooks, literature and grammar.  Students will find 8th grade English more demanding than their previous English classes and should be prepared for rigorous studies of grammar, composition, literature and analysis.  Students will be required to write a research paper, as research is an important part of our educational standards.

* You can keep up with your child's grade by getting a password to the gradebook from our secretary in the office.  You can then log into the gradebook and see your child's grades on all assignments plus his or her average.

Please join Remind 101 for Ms. Dover's class.  I will send out weekly notifications and updates.  This is an excellent way to keep informed of what is going in in 8th grade English.

Hilldale Middle School Reading Program Guidelines

The Engaged Reader Payoff…

Students who read 67 minutes a day score 98% on average on state tests.

Students who read 13 minutes a day score 60% on average on state tests.

Students who read 1 minute a day score 10% on average on state tests.

Conclusion:   Students must read more to increase their test scores, vocabulary, and overall knowledge!

Please encourage your son or daughter to read each and every night.  This benefits them in all subject areas.
