Here are some questions to help your child develop high order thinking skills in reading. These are excellent questions to ask your child after they read!
1. What was the most important part? Why?
2. What was the author trying to teach us in the story? How do you know?
3. What do you think the character learned/is learning?
4. What do you think will happen next?
5. How did the character(s) or event(s) change in the story?
6. What is this story mostly about?
7. Can you retell the important events in the story?
8. What does this story remind you of? Why?
9. What were some questions you had while you were reading the story?
